OTF Advocacy
A major
initiative for OTF is advocacy activities, designed to raise
the profile of the teaching profession in a positive manner.
OTF’s advocacy work takes many forms such as community participation
at events and in programs.
Did you know that OTF always participates in recognizing World
Teachers' Day with the presentation of the OTIP Teaching Awards
and other activities? OTF is a member of the Ontario Coalition
for Better Child Care which works for solid early years' support
for children and their families. OTF encourages participation
in the Spirit of Mandela, an initiative of the Nelson Mandela
Children's Fund, which encourages the use of the life and
work of Nelson Mandela throughout the Ontario curriculum to
encourage good citizenship in students. The Word on the Street
in Toronto offers the opportunity for OTF to distribute literature
to parents to assist their children at school, reading lists
to elementary students, and study tips to secondary students.
Of course, OTF advocates in numerous other areas such as with
other educational stakeholders, parent groups, and the Ministry
of Education.
