Course Code: SI-14

Part 1 – August 11, 2021; Part 2 – August 12, 2021

Description:

Come explore the possibilities of coding for your classroom and beyond. This two-part IGNITE Learning Event offered in partnership with Ontario Tech University, has coding activities that you can use in your classroom this fall. Click on a project, watch a short video on how to get started. Then transform the starter code into a project you are proud of with help from Ontario Tech teacher candidates and instructors. Discuss how you can use these projects within your classroom and how to support your students.

The IGNITE projects will be organised into three grade bands:JK – Grade 3; Grades 4 – 8; and Grades 9 – 12 (Secondary). Each grade band will have several interdisciplinary links. Explore how language skills can be developed in engaging ways through coding. See how students can develop mathematical understandings while creating stories or games and much more.

Explore links to activities to help teachers learn to teach coding while learning to code themselves.

In addition to these classroom friendly coding events, IGNITE your understanding of the possibilities for coding. Join Janette Hughes – Canada Research Chair for STEAM learning for Wednesday’s keynote.  Discover how Coding and Artificial Intelligence are being employed across Ontario Tech to develop innovative products for the future and explore our labs in 3D.
