TORONTO, August 26, 2026—The Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF) Board of Governors elected Waterloo teacher, Nathan Core, as the 83rd President of OTF at its Annual Meeting on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. Core previously served as OTF’s 79th President in 2022–2023.
Core began teaching internationally in 2007 before joining the Waterloo Region District School Board in 2010 as an occasional teacher.
An active member of the labour movement, Core has served on the executive of the Waterloo Region Occasional Teachers’ Local and as its president. At the provincial level, Core has served on the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario Provincial Executive since 2015. He has been a member of the OTF Board of Governors since 2017 and an OTF Table Officer since 2019, serving in a range of leadership positions within the Federation.
“Ontario’s publicly funded education system is strongest when teachers’ professional expertise shapes the decisions affecting students and classrooms,” said Core. “As President, I will work with OTF’s four Affiliates to give Ontario’s teachers a strong, united voice and secure the resources and support every student needs to thrive.”

The Ontario Teachers’ Federation is the advocate for the teaching profession in Ontario and for its 160,000+ teachers. OTF members are full-time, part-time and occasional teachers in all publicly funded schools in the province—elementary, secondary, public, Catholic and the French-language system.
