‘Common sense’ dictates that Mike Harris should not receive the Order of Ontario

Like many of you, you can imagine my shock when I learned that former Premier Mike Harris had been nominated for the province’s highest honour, the Order of Ontario.

The description for the Order provides clear insight why so many Ontarians are profoundly troubled by his nomination. It is “reserved for Ontarians …  whose excellence has left a lasting legacy in the province, Canada and beyond.” True, Mike Harris did leave a lasting legacy; however, it is questionable whether it was a positive one and certainly in relation to the Order of Ontario.
