Early career teacher or experienced teacher?
We want to hear from you.

You are invited to participate in a study, a partnership between the Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF) and researchers Drs. Donna Kotsopoulos, Anton Puvirajah, Amanda Cooper, Sofia Ferreyro Mazieres from Western University, Ontario Tech University, and Wilfrid Laurier University, with support from OTF collaborator Lindy Amato.

The study examines the experience of Early Career Teachers (ECTs) induction into the teaching profession in Ontario’s publicly funded schools, including the competencies needed to be successful, and the supports and challenges experienced during this transition. We are seeking perspectives from both experienced teachers and ECTs.

With OTF’s support, the research team is interested in obtaining your thoughts about the competencies needed to transition to the teaching profession and the supports, both available and desired, which would better support ECTs. This research will help inform advocacy and action by OTF, Faculties of Education across the province, the Ministry of Education and local school boards.

What’s involved?

  • Complete a survey (approximately 15 mins)
  • Optionally participate in a focus group meeting to elaborate on your responses
  • Opportunity to enter a draw for one of five $25 gift cards
  • Your responses to this survey will remain confidential. All data will be reported in aggregate form, making it impossible to discern an individual’s response to any question.

Who can participate?

You are eligible to participate if you have ever worked in a publicly funded school board in Ontario as an Ontario Certified Teacher.
