Course Description

This course builds on Anti-Black Racism Part 1 to strengthen leadership and teaching strategies that amplify Black voices and reimagine schooling. Participants will examine systemic racism in Canada, integrate Black stories and thought into curriculum and school planning, collaborate with Black communities, and design inclusive learning environments that dismantle bias and foster equity through reflective practice.

Note: Candidates will be required to attend one (1) of two mandatory synchronous sessions scheduled during the summer term. These sessions will likely take place during the first full week of classes. Participation in one of the scheduled sessions is a required component of the course. Candidates are welcome to attend both sessions if they choose.

Most Western AQ courses are offered in a combined format, where candidates across Schedule A (Divisional Qualifications-ABQ), Schedule D (3-part AQ), or Schedule E (Honour Specialist AQ), may be combined. As candidates participate in course discussions and collaborative inquiries they work towards achievement of their course-specific expectations.

Prerequisites

1. General Certificate of Qualification and Registration (CQR) indicating successful completion of Anti-Black Racism Part 1. (CQR copy is not required as our office will verify Part 1 completion via the online OCT Public Register.)
2. Evidence of at least one year (194 days) of successful teaching experience, as certified by an appropriate supervisory officer. The supervisory officer is the superintendent of the school board (not the principal) or in the case of private schools, the Ministry of Education official assigned to provide supervisory services.  Teaching experience must be completed AFTER initial teacher certification and PRIOR to the first day of the course.

NOTE:

• Teachers holding Qualifications in Technological Education may take the three-part Schedule D courses in Anti-Black Racism.
• If you hold a Transitional Certificate of Qualification and Registration, you cannot enroll in an Additional Qualifications course.
• Teachers trained outside of Ontario, and wishing to teach in Ontario, must be a fully registered member of the Ontario College of Teachers PRIOR to registration in an AQ.
• Exceptions to the above are made for trained teachers from other jurisdictions who do not plan to teach in Ontario. Contact [email protected] for more information.

Pre-Evaluation Option:

Pre-Evaluation is not required for this course. Our office will verify your OCT status and CQR via the online OCT Public Register.
