Emphasizing kindergarten education within the Ontario Early Learning Framework involves exploring various aspects. These include understanding childhood perspectives and contemporary early childhood education models, embracing play-centered learning, adaptable teaching approaches, and organic curriculum development. It also encompasses effective assessment methods, easing children’s transitions from home, preschool, and childcare to formal schooling, and fostering harmonious relationships among teachers, children, families, communities, and professionals.

Topics in this course include:

  • Explain the principles of play-based learning and the pedagogical approaches that work best for young children.
  • Describe the four frames and explain how they align with the four foundational conditions for learning and development.
  • Identify the roles and relationships that support learning in a play-based program and how they support children’s growth.
  • Understand assessment and learning in Kindergarten to support assessment for, as, and of learning.
