This course will support teachers new to Ontario. A wide range of topics will be explored allowing candidates to effectively teach in Ontario from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The OCT’s Standards for the Teaching Profession & Standards of Practice will frame the learning, using an anti-racism, anti-oppression, and anti-colonial stance.
This course is designed to assist teachers in identifying the relevant content and strategies for teaching Roman Catholic Religious Education from JK to the Senior Division. The students will be introduced to the major philosophical issues, teaching models and assessment strategies.
This course will focus on an advanced study of teaching, approaching, and unit design for Roman Catholic religious studies. It will also examine the relationship between religion and values and the implications for curriculum.
This course will include a specialist level of study of practical strategies for the teaching of Roman Catholic Religious Education including course design and evaluation at both the school and system-wide level. The focus of this course will be on school safety and social acceptance and on how staff and students can create and maintain safe, inclusive, and accepting learning environments. Effective strategies related to caring for the emotional resilience of students and staff will be an important component of the course.
