This course will focus on providing candidates with an increasing awareness and understanding of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people in Canada and the existing diversity of their history, culture, and worldview. By gaining an awareness of their historical experiences and traditional beliefs and values, candidates have opportunity to acquire an understanding necessary to better integrate First Nations, Métis, and Inuit content addressing traditional and contemporary issues at the local, regional, and national levels into subject areas.

Providing candidates with knowledge, skills, and attitudes to teach First Nations, Métis, and Inuit courses and identify relevant and appropriate classroom materials and community resources. This course will also provide candidates an opportunity to develop curriculum units specific to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Studies and engage in online discussions with colleagues.

– Curriculum gaps and integrating content in other subject areas
– Creating lessons and assignments that will increase awareness
– Applying assessment and evaluation strategies to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Studies
– Traditional theories of respect, responsibility, reciprocity, and relevance
– The contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people
– Re-building, renewal, and revitalization initiatives by First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people today
