AQ Family Studies, Specialist (Windsor, Fall 2019, Online)

The Additional Qualification course: Family Studies, Specialist explores the theoretical foundations, the development of learners, program planning and implementation, assessment, the learning environment and ethical considerations related to teaching and learning across the divisions.

Topics include:

  • addressing sensitive issues (for example, family violence, relationships, sexual orientation, discrimination, family stressors) may arise within family studies
  • implementing Ontario curriculum and government policies relevant to the teaching and learning of Family Studies
  • developing and implementing practices that are sensitive to society’s diverse and changing nature and its influence on students
  • applying research and inquiry skills within the Family Studies curriculum
  • integrating social justice and global issues as part of the Family Studies program
  • demonstrating an awareness and facility for managing the resources in the Family Studies classroom.
  • applying experiential learning within Family Studies
  • creating fair and equitable assessment and evaluation methods that honour the dignity, emotional wellness and cognitive development of all students
  • making connections with professional Family Studies associations to support professional development.
