The purpose of the Additional Qualification course: Dramatic Arts, Specialist extends the knowledge and skills of Part II for all teachers in both elementary and secondary schools.  The course continues to focus on the theory and practice underpinning dramatic arts education.

Topics in this course include:
•    analyzing critically current Ontario legislation, regulations, and policies  related to dramatic arts education
•    designing and evaluating innovative practices in dramatic arts education
•    examining the influence of drama as it stimulates discourse into issues of social justice and relates to people with special needs
•    facilitating mentorship and coaching networks in the dramatic arts
•    facilitating opportunities for ongoing professional learning opportunities for teachers in the dramatic arts
•    providing leadership in using fair and equitable assessments applying multiple methods of assessment, both formal and informal, formative and summative as well as a range of assessment strategies
•    having familiarity with theories of theatre practitioners (e.g. Konstatin   Stanislavski, Bertolt Brecht, Federick Alexander, Patsy Rodenberg, Cecily Berry, Rudolf Laban, etc.)
•    examining drama’s relationship to social issues such as justice, racism, intolerance, private and public security and respect for individual beliefs
•    having familiarity with nonrealistic theatrical styles such as clowning, melodrama, Shakespeare, mime, restoration, comedy and mask
•    having familiarity with the evolution of theatrical styles such as children’s theatre, Commedia Dell’Art, Epic and theatre of the absurd
•    having familiarity with the art of the playwright
•    having awareness of the roles of directors and stage managers
