COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides educators with an opportunity to explore First Nation, Métis and Inuit knowledge and ways of knowing and how to connect this knowledge to the classroom. Throughout the course students will develop an understanding of First Nation, Métis and Inuit traditional teaching, histories, current issues and culture, and how these connect to the curriculum in order to support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action. Students will unlearn the misconceptions of historical events and re-learn historical and current realities for the First Peoples of Canada. This course will provide candidates with the knowledge to create curriculum embedded with Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing.

PREREQUISITES

  • OCT Member in Good Standing or OCT applicant if new Ontario BEd graduate (Read more)
  • Your teacher education program coursework and practicum must be successfully completed before registration.
  • Qualification in at least one teaching division (e.g., Primary, Junior, Intermediate or Senior division qualifications)
