Reading Part 3 is designed to meet the professional needs of educators wishing to assume leadership responsibilities in literacy education. Critical attention is given to current research and curriculum design that incorporates the principles of language acquisition and literacy development. In particular, the course approaches literacy from the perspective of leadership and the school-wide program. The course investigates how the process of change affects schools and how literacy leaders are able to use current research to build professional learning communities. Finally, this course examines how the culture of teaching and of the school significantly influences students’ attitudes, values and skills as language users. Candidates exercise their leadership abilities by preparing and presenting a literacy seminar or workshop. Visit website for additional information.
