Senior Curriculum and Instruction (Senior ABQ) – Family Studies ABQ (Lakehead, Spring 2025, Online)

The Additional Qualification Course: Senior Division, Family Studies employs a critical, pedagogical lens to explore in a holistic and integrated manner theoretical foundations, learning theory, program planning, development and implementation, instructional design and practices, assessment and evaluation, the learning environment, research and ethical considerations related to teaching and learning within and across the divisions. Through these explorations, candidates strengthen professional efficacy by gaining in-depth knowledge, refining professional judgment and generating new knowledge for practice.

Lakehead University’s Calendar outlines the general admission requirements for all Lakehead University courses, programs, and workshops. These prerequisites include the following:

  • A general Certificate of Qualification and registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers; and
  • A recognized postsecondary degree or equivalent

In addition to Lakehead University’s general admission requirements, all prospective ABQ learners must meet the following requirements:

Intermediate ABQ Courses

  • Two (2) full university credits* or equivalent in the teachable subject

Senior ABQ Courses (initial certification)

  • Five (5) full university credits* or equivalent in the teachable subject

Senior ABQ Courses (second or subsequent teachable subjects)

  • Three (3) full university credits* or equivalent in the teachable subject

Note: The pass mark for all ABQ courses is 70%.
