Media: Entertainment to Education

We live in a society where people are using media to share their thinking on a daily basis. Funny videos, memes, Snapchat or Instagram stories, screencasts, gifs, texts, tweets, and good old blogs provide the opportunity for people to have their voices heard in a more creative and often engaging fashion. Presenters Andrew Bieronski and Jamie Reaburn will explore some of the tools our students are using for entertainment purposes and consider how we can leverage them to demonstrate their learning of the overall curriculum expectations through both media analysis and creation lenses.

In this session you will learn:

  • How to see the potential of entertainment based media and leverage it for learning
  • How to use media analysis techniques for assessment as learning
  • How to use media creation tasks as assessment of learning
  • About a variety of tools that can be used for learning
