Programming Description
This course is designed to prepare you for developing, implementing, and delivering co-operative education programs for high school students. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of various experiential learning opportunities, such as the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM), and Dual Credit programs, and how they align with the Ontario Ministry of Education’s curriculum.
The course covers the core responsibilities of a co-op teacher, including forming partnerships with employers and community organizations. You’ll also learn about preparing and monitoring students for their work placements. The curriculum also explores assessment and evaluation techniques, such as reflective journaling, workplace performance evaluations, and culminating assignments. A key focus is on supporting students’ emotional, social, and academic well-being in experiential settings. By the end of the course, you’ll be equipped to create and deliver co-op programs that support students’ personal interests, post-secondary plans, and future career readiness.
