The Specialist course in Cooperative Education Specialist is designed for professionals who wish to demonstrate educational leadership through a position of added responsibility in Experiential Education within their school or school board. Cooperative education teachers work in partnership with subject-specific teachers, the business community and others at the local, regional and provincial levels to create curriculum opportunities and programs that enable and promote student achievement in a variety of content areas.

The basic principle of cooperative education is that personal growth and career development are best achieved by combining classroom learning with practical experience. A student’s attitude, interests, values, needs and motives depend equally upon practical experience and traditional academic learning. Cooperative education provides the reality and relevancy to education, which develops the “whole person” because it bridges the gap between classroom study and what a student needs to know to become a productive member of society.

Activities will include discussions with peers and colleagues, exploration of course references and readings, participation in online discussions with colleagues, development of presentations for school boards, critical assessment of case studies, reflective thinking, and a course culminating activity that synthesizes the learning from this course.
