The Expert Panel Reports on Early Reading have highlighted the importance of literacy. This course will assist you in the development of a balanced literacy program to ensure that children learn to read and read to learn. You will develop a repertoire of practical strategies to enhance balanced literacy, reading effectiveness, and study the development of language and its relation to cognitive development. The following major themes will form the core of this course: the child as reader, the important role of literacy within the total program, the expectations of implementing the new Ministry directions, assessing and evaluating for the provincial report cards, and a study of what is to be learned from standardized testing and how this applies to your students in your classroom. Reading/Literacy is a cross divisional course. Visit website for additional information.
