The Health and Physical Education Additional Basic Qualification course, which is a requirement for teaching health and physical education in the senior division, is designed for a diverse group of qualified teachers, including teachers who are transferring from one division to another. Participants who enroll in the Additional Basic Qualification in Health and Physical Education already have knowledge of the subject. The teaching of subject matter in the senior division relies on the teacher’s ability to create positive learning experiences for the student. The teacher must be able to combine knowledge of adolescent development and learning with knowledge of the subject matter to promote student engagement. The Additional Basic Qualification in Health and Physical Education Teaching focuses on the discipline and theory behind the study of the subject matter. It explores adolescent development, program planning and delivery, the secondary school environment, and addresses current legislation, procedures, and policies in the field of education in Ontario
