Teaching Students who are Blind, Part 1, Part 2, Specialist AQ (Western, Spring 2018, Online)

Part 1 – This introductory course will focus on the examination of issues related to the teaching of visually impaired students including the social, emotional and physical development. Special instructional strategies for visually impaired children will be included.

Part 2 – This course will provide a more advanced consideration of the theoretical and programmatic issues related to the education of the visually disabled student including program modifications, functional vision assessments, use of technology, structure and function of the eye and educational implications of eye conditions.

Specialist- This course will focus on the leadership role in programming for the visually disabled and multiply disabled students including the curriculum, educational theories, teaching strategies and assessment. Instruction in music and computer Braille and Braille translation software will also be included.
