This course provides the foundations to cultivate an awareness of curriculum design principles and teaching techniques appropriate for a robust literacy program in the Intermediate years. In this program you will study the reading process and the stages of reading development in order to acquire a repertoire of instructional strategies for the enhancement and assessment of literacy growth in the context of the needs and characteristics of adolescents. You will begin to explore the new directions on At-Risk students. You will also examine the resources and learning materials available and consider the importance of children’s literature and its relationship to enhanced literacy development.
